What is SSF in Nepal?

The Social Security Fund (SSF) is Nepal's contribution-based social protection system, established under the Contribution Based Social Security Act 2074 and run by the Social Security Fund (ssf.gov.np). Enrolled employers and employees contribute a fixed share of basic salary every month, which funds medical, maternity, accident, disability, dependent-family and old-age pension protection. Registration is mandatory for most formal private-sector employers.

How is SSF contribution calculated?

Contributions use the monthly basic salary as the base — allowances are excluded and there is no official ceiling. The employee pays 11% (10% pension fund + 1% social security tax) and the employer pays 20% (10% pension fund + 8.33% gratuity + 1.67% additional), for a combined 31%. Example: on Rs. 30,000 basic salary, the employee share is Rs. 3,300 and the employer share is Rs. 6,000 — Rs. 9,300 in total per month.

Who needs to contribute to SSF?

Private-sector employers must register with the SSF and enroll their employees, then remit both shares every month through the SSF portal. Public enterprises, NGOs and INGOs operating in Nepal are also covered. If you receive a payslip with an SSF line, your employer is already deducting the 11% employee share; business owners use the employer view to budget the additional 20% cost per employee.

Does SSF contribution reduce take-home salary?

The employee's 11% is deducted from salary, so take-home pay falls by exactly that amount — Rs. 3,300 less per month on a Rs. 30,000 basic salary. The employer's 20% never comes out of the employee's pocket: it is an extra cost the business pays on top of salary, subject to the same payroll and tax rules as other employer contributions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SSF in Nepal?

SSF is Nepal’s contribution-based Social Security Fund, run under the Contribution Based Social Security Act 2074. It pools monthly contributions to fund medical, maternity, accident, disability, dependent-family and old-age pension protection for enrolled workers.

How much does an employee contribute to SSF?

An employee contributes 11% of monthly basic salary — 10% to the pension fund and 1% as social security tax. For a basic salary of Rs. 30,000, that is Rs. 3,300 per month, deducted from pay.

How much does an employer contribute to SSF?

The employer contributes 20% of the employee’s monthly basic salary — 10% pension fund, 8.33% gratuity and 1.67% additional contribution. For a basic salary of Rs. 30,000, that is Rs. 6,000 per month, paid on top of salary.

Is SSF calculated on basic salary?

Yes. SSF contributions are calculated on basic salary only — allowances such as dearness, house rent and transport are excluded unless the employer treats a component as basic remuneration. There is no officially confirmed ceiling or minimum on the contribution base.

Does SSF reduce take-home salary?

Partly. The employee’s 11% share is deducted from salary, so take-home pay falls by that amount. The employer’s 20% share is an additional employer cost paid on top of salary — it is never deducted from the employee.

How is annual SSF contribution calculated?

Multiply the monthly contribution by 12. For example, a Rs. 3,300 monthly employee share becomes Rs. 39,600 per year, and a Rs. 6,000 employer share becomes Rs. 72,000 per year.

Is this SSF calculator official?

No. This is an estimation tool built on the published SSF contribution structure (11% employee + 20% employer of basic salary). Always confirm your exact deduction with your employer’s payroll or the Social Security Fund.

Can SSF rates change?

Yes. Rates are set by law and can change through amendments to the SSF Act or regulations. This calculator was last verified on 2026-09-11. Rates are subject to change according to official SSF rules.

Is SolutionsNepal an official SSF website?

No. SolutionsNepal is an independent tools website. This calculator is provided for estimation and informational purposes and is not affiliated with the Social Security Fund.
